Young-joong Kang, Chairman of Daekyo Group, elected as 18th IBF President

Assuming the post of “shuttlecock chieftain” who will lead the world of badminton until 2009, Young-joong Kang(56), president of the Korea Badminton Association, was elected as the 18th president during the general assembly of the International Badminton Federation (IBF) held on May 8 in Beijing, China.

A total of 131 out of 156 delegates attended the IBF meeting, wherein the new President was elected unanimously after he presented his views and vision; thus foregoing the need for the casting of votes.

“I feel more pressured than overjoyed at having been elected; still, I intend to do my best to enable the selection of badminton as one of the official Olympic games and promote it as a sports activity loved by the whole world by providing comprehensive support to areas where badminton is not yet very popular, such as the US, Africa, and Oceania,” said President Young-joong Kang during the press conference held immediately after he was elected IBF president.

Chairman Young-joong Kang, who is also the supreme leader of the Daegyo Group, began his love affair with the shuttlecock when he founded the Noonnoppi Women’s Badminton Team in 1997. He was elected president of the Korea Badminton Association in July 2003 and president of the Asia Badminton Confederation in November of the same year.
