On the occasion of the festival of ”Shuttlecock Ggumnamu [Young Aspirants],” the World Junior Badminton Championships is slated to be held in Korea.
The Korea Badminton Association disclosed on May 13 that Incheon, Korea was selected as the venue for the 2006 World Junior Badminton Championships during the council of the International Badminton Federation held in Beijing, China on May 12.
Korea has expanded its influence at the international front after president Young-joong Kang was elected president of the International Badminton Federation (IBF) last May 8, although this is the first time that Korea will be hosting world championships sponsored by IBF.
Likewise, IBF decided to give meritorious service awards to Vice Chairman Kim, Hak-seok and Vice-Chairman Martin Lund of the Netherlands. IBF’s meritorious service awards are given to those who have served the international badminton field for at least 15 years and contributed to its development.
To date, Park, Ju-bong and Kim, Mun-su of Korea have been named to the Hall of Fame, with Kim, Dong-mun and Na, Kyong-min selected as Players of the Year. Even though badminton players win many awards, this is the first time that an administrative expert has won an award.
