Korea’s Young-joong Kang was named new IBF President during the general meeting of IBF held in Beijing yesterday. To reinforce badminton’s position in the Olympics, the new Committee has changed the number of participants to the 2008 Beijing Olympics and single/double matches. The International Olympics Committee plans to evaluate 28 events in Singapore in October this year. If it does not get the nod of the majority of the participating members, badminton may slide down further from its current rank.
“During the 2000 evaluation, badminton was ranked 24th among the 28 events. We must promote badminton more aggressively in other countries aside from Asia and Europe,” the newly appointed chairman stressed.
