“Korea's Year-end Gift” Impressed World Badminton... Chairman Kang Young-joong "Kept his promise 10 years ago."
Badminton World Federation (BWF) has received a heartwarming gift for the holidays. The gift was sent to Korea.
Kang Young-joong (72), chairman of the World Youth Culture Foundation, became the so-called "Korean Santa Claus."
Chairman Kang, who is also a lifetime honorary vice president of the BWF, recently donated the World Junior Badminton Championship trophy, the "I-Level Cup," to the BWF Secretariat.
It consists of five trophies and a case for storage and transportation for five badminton events (single and double + mixed).
The purpose of amateur sports was to create meaningful prizes like the preservation trophy of the soccer World Cup to develop pride for aspiring players.
Chairman Kang paid for the production of the trophy, and it was named the "Eye Level Cup" after the brand "Eye Level Cup" of Daekyo, an educational company. It is the birth of the first conservation trophy in an amateur event.
The trophy was kept at the BWF secretariat in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia for 10 years, and the names of the winners and winners were permanently engraved, and each year the junior championship was held in a special aluminum box to tour the host country.
Due to the structure of the trophy, the I-Level Cup will be full in 10 years to engrave the winner's name. Ten years ago, Kang promised to make another one after the expiration date of the 10-year contract.
As the end of this year approached, Chairman Kang reportedly ordered the production of the second trophy, recalling his memory of 10 years ago, saying, "We must keep our promises."
The second trophy was shaped like a key to "the sports dreamer has an answer" that will lead the future, and the winner's name tag was added to permanently engrave the names of the World Junior Championship winners and winners.
It will be held on October 17, 2022 in Ulva, Spain
Starting with the World Junior Badminton Championship, it will tour the host country every year for the next 10 years.
