Daekyo announced on the 14th that it has published The Star Child, a picture book for readers of all ages that explores the meaning of life and growth, in celebration of the company’s 50th anniversary.

The Star Child tells the story of a child from a distant star who chooses to be born on Earth and live as a human being. Through poetic prose and delicate illustrations, the book portrays the journey of a human life, from birth and growth to encounters, farewells, and ultimately death, conveying the preciousness of life and the meaning of existence.

Designed for both children and adult readers, the picture book offers courage and warm comfort to children as they navigate the world, while inviting adults to reflect on their lives and appreciate the value of everyday moments. Through its universal themes, the book delivers a message of empathy and consolation that transcends generations.

The Korean edition features recommendations from KAIST Professor Jung Jae-seung, broadcaster Oh Sang-jin, and author Kim So-young, helping readers gain a deeper understanding of the book’s message.

The Star Child has also gained recognition among Korean readers through its appearance in the film C’mon C’mon, starring Joaquin Phoenix. In the film, the book serves as a symbolic medium that connects the characters emotionally, leaving a lasting impression on audiences.

A Daekyo representative said, “The Star Child is a work that allows children and adults to read together and naturally share their thoughts on the meaning of life and growth. As we celebrate our 50th anniversary, we will continue to introduce content that delivers meaningful value to people’s lives, extending beyond education.”

Meanwhile, The Star Child was written and illustrated by American picture book author Claire A. Nivola and translated into Korean by Lee Sang-hee, a poet, picture book author, and translator.
