Going into the market of Deep Sea Water
Daekyo had ground breaking in Goseong, Gangwon Province.
Daekyo Group (Kang Young Joong, CEO) is going into Deep Sea Water (DSW) market. On the 11th of March 2008, Daekyo had a ground-breaking ceremony of production facility for Gangwon Deep Sea Water Co. Ltd., corporation set up by public and private investors.
DSW is -the world popular pure- premium water from the depth of 200 meters below the surface of sea, where sunlight cannot reach and there is no existence of organisms or germs while still have full of minerals and nutritious saline. By 2010, the market is expected to grow up to US $1 Billion.
Gangwon Deep Sea Water Co., Ltd. will start collecting 3,000 tons of clean DSW from 600 meters deep as soon as the facility’s construction finishes in second half of the year, seeking for an effect that will replace the imported DSW.
The CEO of Daekyo group, Kang Young Joong, made clear that his vision is to enter into the future power business starting with DSW business. He also said, “Our nation is categorized as a water-shortage country by the United Nations, which may be more meaningful for us to be a deep sea water producing country than to be an oil producing country – especially when now is the age of environmental friendly energy and recycled energy are prevailing as an alternative energy for oil. Now that Deep Sea Water will be utilized by the various end-user product businesses, such as cosmetics and health foods, its economical impact will be more powerful than we expect. This kind of higher, value-added, business could contribute for developing regional economy growth and for creating employment opportunities.”
Gangwon DSW is stepping not only into natural drinking water and beverage business but also into B2B distribution business in agricultural food processing, marine products processing, cosmetic production and pharmaceutical production as well as sports and health drinks. Also there will be a high class leisure / vacation theme park facility with the theme of thalassotherapy (from the Greek word thalassos, meaning ‘sea’, is the medical use of seawater) built to be operated later this year (costing US $36 Million dollars in 10 floor high, on over 10,000 square meter area).
Kang also said “In the near future, we will focus more on high additional value projects such as developing housing area and tour packages as well as academic-industrial cooperation so that the city of Goseong becomes the Mecca of DSW.”
On the other hand, the production facility is the first in Korea that uses Reel Barge construction method for water collecting plant which has the outstanding durability and long life span to help collecting under stable condition for a long time.
Gangwon Deep Sea Water Co., Ltd. is invested by Gangwon Province (4 Billion won), Goseong County (4 Billion Won), Daekyo Group (10 Billion Won) and KIBI in Japan (2 Billion Won). And hopefully the business will be driven forward with such stable capital background.
