Daekyo to build Self-reliant Private High School(tentative name)
Daekyo plans to build in March 2009 the Daekyo Global Leader Academy(tentative name), a USD60,000,000 boarding school on an 8,000-pyeong site in Eunpyeong New Town, Gangbuk, Seoul through the Bong-Ahm Educational Foundation named after the pen name of Daekyo Group Founder and Chairman Young-Joong Kang “Bong-Ahm” in recognition of his educational commitment.
The educational philosophy of the Daekyo Global Leader Academy(tentative name) is to “Train global leaders who will shape the future.” Daekyo is currently making the necessary preparations to introduce an international accredited program to realize such philosophy. The school seeks to develop the attitude, mindset, and sense of ethics of the students as future global leaders through global leadership courses and special activities and to foster personnel with service orientation and responsibility through public services. The school will select 150 students every year; a total of 450 students will be divided into 3 academic years. The school will be operated based on a non-graded credit system without classes and class teachers. Teaching and studying will be carried out in English except Korean language, national history, and certain subjects.
Daekyo approved on May 19 the application for the establishment of the educational foundation and organization of the Board of Directors and held an inaugural general meeting for the establishment of the Bong-Ahm Educational Foundation on June 21, with Daekyo Group Chairman Young-joong Kang, Song Ja, head of the organizing body for the establishment of the school, and other officials attending.
